Backstamps of Royal Worcester Coddlers

The backstamp of a Royal Worcester (RW) egg coddler is the main characteristic, other than the pattern used to distinguish the type of coddler. RW produced many coddlers using the same pattern over the years. The backstamp (and the screw threads) can be used to further classify coddlers.

This backstamp, consisting of the words ROYAL WORCESTER ENGLAND, is the most commonly found "older" backstamp. There are older coddlers and backstamps made by RW, but this is one that is seen most often of the older backstamps. This backstamp is found on coddlers of Type 7.
This backstamp, consisting of a W in a circle, the words ROYAL WORCESTER PORCELAIN, and MADE IN ENGLAND is found on coddlers of Type 8 and Type 9. The difference between the types can be determined by the color and placement of the backstamp.
This backstamp consists of a W in a circle, the words ROYAL WORCESTER PORCELAIN, and MADE IN ENGLAND. This backstamp is like the previous one, with the addition of the Registered Trademark symbol ®. It is is found on coddlers of Type 10, or Type 11. The difference between these types is determined by the material that was used to manufacture the screw threads of the coddler.
This backstamp, consists of a C51 in a circle, under a crown, with the words ROYAL WORCESTER FINE PORCELAIN, and MADE IN ENGLAND OVEN TO TABLEWARE is found on coddlers of Type 12.
